COOKIE POLICY

(version 1.0 – Last updated: 01/12/2022)

The purpose of this cookie policy is to illustrate the types of cookies present on the website and the purposes for which they are used, as well as to provide indications regarding the actions that a user must take to disable or delete them. This document is an integral part of the privacy policy of the website www.cafein-project.eu and the information contained therein provided to the data subjects pursuant to the general data protection regulation (EU REG. No. 679/2016). The information is provided exclusively for cookies present within the website and not also for cookies present on external websites that can be reached via links within the website itself.

The cookie policy may be periodically updated, so we recommend that you consult this document each time you access the website in order to be properly informed about how and why cookies are used.

  1. INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSTE OF THE DOCUMENT

In the following sections of this document the term “Cookies” refers to both cookies and similar technologies, such as Local Shared Objects. The purpose of this Policy is to provide the information necessary to manage the Cookies used by this website, and to allow the user (hereinafter also referred to as “User”) to make informed choices.

  1. DATA CONTROLLER AND DATA SUBJECTS

The Data Controller, as indicated in the Privacy Policy, is the CAFEIN Consortium, hereinafter the Data Controller.

The Data Controller is the entitled for the processing of Personal Data carried out by its own Cookies, i.e. “first party”, while the Data Controller is the Data Controller for the processing of Personal Data carried out by the so-called “third party” Cookies, i.e. the companies identified in the table contained in this document, at paragraph 4.2.

The parties concerned, who must read this information, are the Users of the CAFEIN website. At any time, the User may make a request for clarification and exercise his or her rights regarding the protection of personal data by contacting the Data Controller at this email address: info@cafein-project.eu

  1. REGULATORY FRAMEWORK

This subject matter is addressed by the General Data Protection Regulation (EU Regulation 2016/679, GDPR), which states in Recital 30 that “Natural persons may be associated with online identifiers produced by the devices, applications, tools and protocols used, such as IP addresses, temporary markers (cookies) or other identifiers such as radio frequency identification tags. Such identifiers can leave traces which, in particular, when combined with unique identifiers and other information received by the servers, can be used to create profiles of individuals and identify them.

For this reason, this notice provides you with all the information concerning the processing of personal data carried out by means of the cookies installed on the www.cafein-project.eu website.

  1. GENERAL PRINCIPLES

4.1 Cookie definition

Cookies are text strings that websites (so-called “publishers”, or “first parties”) visited by the user or different websites or web servers (so-called “third parties”) place and store – directly, in the case of publishers, and indirectly, i.e. through them, in the case of “third parties” – within a terminal device available to the user.

There are various types of Cookies and various classifications. A first breakdown, based on the intended purpose, distinguishes between:

  • technical cookies, used for the sole purpose of ‘carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the contracting party or user to provide such service’;
  • profiling cookies, used to link specific actions or recurring behavioural patterns in the use of the offered functionalities (patterns) to specific identified or identifiable subjects, in order to group the different profiles within homogeneous clusters of different sizes, so that the holder can, among other things, also modulate the provision of the service in an increasingly customised manner beyond what is strictly necessary to provide the service, and send targeted advertising messages, i.e. in line with the preferences expressed by the user when surfing the web. This category includes analytics cookies, widgets, advertising and web beacons.

Cookies can also be classified according to duration (session or persistent cookies) or according to origin (first-party or third-party cookies). Specifically:

  • “Session” cookies, which are deleted immediately when the browser is closed;
  • “Persistent” cookies, which remain in the browser for a set period of time; they are used, for example, to recognise the device connecting to a website, facilitating authentication operations for the user;
  • “Own” (or ‘first party’) cookies, i.e. generated and managed directly by the operator of the website on which the user is browsing;
  • “Third-party” cookies, i.e. generated and managed by parties other than the operator of the website on which the user is browsing.

4.2 Cookies on the CAFEIN website

The CAFEIN website uses the following types of first-party technical cookies:

  1. Browsing or session cookies: these are essential to enable the user to move around the website normally and to use the relevant services correctly; they are not data that is stored on the user’s computer and are deleted when the browser is closed.
  2. “Functionality” cookies: these have the sole purpose of improving the user experience (e.g. speeding up website navigation), by memorising certain choices made by the user (e.g. language). These cookies are valid for the browsing session and are deleted when the browser is closed.

Both these tools are used by the CAFEIN website to ensure efficient navigation, session stability and login permanence throughout the session. They are also useful for storing the user’s choices regarding the display of certain elements of the page (e.g. information and communication banners).

The use of these technical cookies and the performance of related processing operations do not require the user’s consent under current regulations. However, the user has the option of preventing their installation at any time by modifying the settings on their browser, in the knowledge that a decision to do so could complicate, slow down and sometimes block navigation on our website.

The CAFEIN website also uses profiling cookies of the “analytics” type, used to collect and analyse statistical information on access and visits to the website (e.g. country of navigation and/or browser used, number of visitors). The installation of such cookies requires the express consent of the user.

Below is a summary table showing the name/code of the cookie installed, its type and purpose/description:

On this website we use embedded sections from other websites and platforms. A Twitter embedded section is used in the Newsroom. Please, check this document to LEARN MORE ABOUT TWITTER’S COOKIE POLICY.

4.3 Social Buttons

On our website there are special ‘buttons’ (called ‘social buttons/widgets’) that depict the icons of social networks (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.) and other websites. These buttons allow the user to interact with a ‘click’ directly with the social networks and other websites depicted therein. In this case, the social network and the other websites acquire data relating to the visit, while the Controller will not share any of your browsing information or data acquired through its site with the social networks and the other websites accessible through the social buttons/widgets.

When visiting the CAFEIN website, it is possible to accept all cookies or accept profiling cookies individually, expressing one’s consent in an analytical manner.

The interested party who does not wish to express their consent to the use of cookies or other tracking tools other than technical ones, prevents the website from reiterating the presentation of the banner on the occasion of subsequent accesses by the user, subject to the exceptions described in the previous paragraph and, in any case, for a period of time of no less than 6 months.

In any other case and on each subsequent visit to CAFEIN, by clicking on the “Cookie Policy” link at the bottom of the homepage of our website, you will be able to access this information and deny your consent to the installation of cookies.

You can disable cookies depending on the browser you are using. This website functions optimally if cookies are enabled. You can however decide not to allow cookies to be set on your computer. Please select the browser you are using for information on how to change your cookie settings:

If you disable cookies completely, you may disable certain features of the website. Even with all cookies disabled, your browser will still store a small amount of information necessary for basic website functionality. All major browsers have a ‘private’ browsing mode that allows you to browse websites without recording histories. Usually at the end of these modes all cookies set are destroyed.

4.5 Purpose of circulation and data retention

Data relating to cookies are retained for the period specified in the table in section 4.2, except in the event of the detection of computer crimes to the detriment of the website. Otherwise, the user’s personal data freely provided by filling in forms published on the pages of the website are kept for the time necessary to pursue the purposes indicated in the relevant information.

4.6 RIGHTS OF THE DATA SUBJECT

We guarantee you respect for your rights in the area of personal data protection. In line with the provisions of the GDPR, in relation to the processing of your personal data, you have the right to request from the Data Controller:

  • Access: you may request confirmation as to whether or not any data processing is taking place concerning you, as well as further clarification regarding the information set out in this notice.
  • Rectification: you may request that the data you have provided be rectified or supplemented if they are inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Deletion: you may request that your data be deleted if it is no longer necessary for our purposes, in the event of revocation of consent or opposition to processing, in the event of unlawful processing, or if there is a legal obligation to delete it, or if it relates to persons under sixteen years of age.
  • Limitation: you may request that your data be processed only for the purposes of storage, with exclusion of other processing, for the period necessary to rectify your data, in the event of unlawful processing for which you object to the deletion, if you have to exercise your rights in court and the data retained by the Controller may be useful to you and, finally, if you object to the processing and a check is being carried out on whether the legitimate reasons of the Controller prevail over yours.
  • Objection: you may object at any time to the processing of your data, unless there are legitimate reasons for the Controller to proceed with the processing that override your own, for example for the exercise or defence of your rights in court.
  • Portability: you may request to receive your data, or to have it transmitted to another data controller indicated by you, in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format.
  • Revocation: you may revoke your consent to the use of cookies (Cookie Policy) at any time, as this constitutes the basis for the processing in this case. Revocation of consent, however, does not affect the lawfulness of the processing based on the consent given prior to revocation.

At any time you may ask to exercise the above rights to the Data Controller by contacting the e-mail address info@cafein-project.eu.
